IEEE Day Celebration on the theme “Leveraging Technology For A Better Tomorrow”

The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS) Student Chapter, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bengaluru, celebrated IEEE Day 2025 on 16 October 2025 by organizing an insightful technical talk on the theme “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow.” The event was conducted at 2:00 PM in collaboration with other IEEE student societies at NMIT and witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and IEEE volunteers.

The program began with the hosts, Ms. Kritika and Ms. Manasa from the ECE Department, who introduced the significance of IEEE Day, its origin, and the role of IEEE in advancing technology for humanity. They also highlighted the vibrant IEEE ecosystem at NMIT and the contributions of various student chapters, followed by an invocation.

The chief guests for the event were Dr. Chengappa Munjandira, Vice Chair of the IEEE Bangalore Section; Mr. Bernard Mallia, CEO of the Equinox Group; and Ms. Rossana Caputo, President of the Mediterranean Institute of Innovation, Communications and Technology (MIICT). They were welcomed along with Dr. Parameshachari B. D., Professor and Head of the Department of ECE, and faculty advisors of IEEE societies at NMIT.

Dr. Parameshachari B. D. addressed the audience by outlining the mission, vision, and global impact of IEEE. He spoke about the active IEEE chapters at NMIT, the significance of IEEE Day, and the importance of student participation in IEEE activities. He also highlighted opportunities such as scholarships, travel grants, and professional networking that IEEE membership offers.

Dr. Chengappa Munjandira shared insights into the structure, history, and legacy of IEEE, emphasizing the strong standing of the IEEE Bangalore Section. He encouraged students to actively engage in IEEE events such as hackathons, symposiums, and conferences, noting their role in skill development, research exposure, and career growth.

Mr. Bernard Mallia discussed his work on AI-driven infrastructure and space-technology projects across Europe. He highlighted applications of satellite and spectral imaging, energy-efficient systems, and AI models optimized for real-world deployment, demonstrating how advanced technologies can address global challenges.

Ms. Rossana Caputo emphasized the value of intellectual freedom and independent thinking in driving innovation. She encouraged students to challenge conventions, trust their ideas, and approach technology with creativity and purpose, sharing experiences from her collaborative projects in innovation and sustainability.

The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing unity and shared achievement within the IEEE community. Overall, the IEEE Day 2025 celebration organized by the IEEE APS Student Chapter at NMIT served as a platform for learning, inspiration, and reflection, reinforcing the IEEE vision of leveraging technology for the betterment of society.
