IEEEDay25@Ashesi
Aim
The aim of this event is to promote IEEE on campus. It is hoped that by the end of the day, many more STEM majors on campus will be aware of the existence and benefits of being an IEEE member, and engaging in IEEE-sponsored events both on campus and globally.
Structure
This year’s event is designed to be a fair. It is modelled after the Immersive Gallery Walkway during the Undergraduate Research Festival that was organised last year on campus. The organising team reviewed and selected 13 IEEE societies and affinity groups reflecting the general interests on campus. Each of these groups will be featured on a board using posters (the general outline of these posters is given in the appendix). Two additional boards will be set up – one to spotlight IEEE competitions, and another for conferences. In all, there will be 15 display boards.
There will also be pull-up banners of as many IEEE societies as can be featured on it displayed on one end of the arena, to promote other groups we may not be able to feature, as well as to provide a backdrop for participants to take pictures. In addition, there will be a table for interested members to register or renew their membership. We will have at least two people with bank cards who can help interested persons who do not have a VISA or Mastercard register. A total of approximately 20 volunteers will be in charge of the event. There will also be light snacks at the event.
On the Ashesi campus, students typically have 15-minute breaks between the 1.5-hour periods. These are at 9:30-9:45 am, 11:15-11:30 am, 1:00-1:15 pm, and 2:45-3:00 pm. We are targeting having students pass through the event during these breaks, or during the class periods between these breaks when they do not have class.
