Celebrating IEEE Day 2024 : Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow

The annual celebration of “IEEE Day 2024: Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow” by the IEEE RUET Student Branch occurred with the same zeal, technical competence, and dedication to the community. Those in attendance excitement was unwavering as they passionately participated in talks about technology, innovation, and the future, despite the overcast and moist afternoon.

New members, seniors, and respected faculty came together to delve into emerging technologies, IEEE’s role in driving innovation, the history of IEEE, and the evolving engineering landscape. Each speaker offered valuable insights, reinforcing the sense of collaboration and mentorship that defines the IEEE community.

The program began with a welcoming presentation by Zerin Tasnim & Sk. Mahir Absar Uddin for the esteemed guests, “Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Mondal Sir, Advisor of IEEE RUET SB”, “Dr. G.K.M. Hasanuzzaman Sir, Counselor of IEEE RUET SB ” and “Prof. Dr. Abdur Razzak Sir, Former Advisor of IEEE RUET SB”. The honourable teachers delivered motivating speeches, encouraging everyone to be more technically inclined, punctual, and dedicated to their responsibilities. The speeches emphasized the importance of IEEE’s history and warmly welcomed everyone.

Prof. Dr. S M Abdur Razzak Sir described the history of  IEEE. By his speech, he provided us with some insightful knowledge.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) was founded in 1963 through the merger of two major organizations: the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE), established in 1884, and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE), founded in 1912. AIEE focused on electrical power, while IRE specialized in radio and electronics. IEEE combined their expertise to support the growing fields of electrical engineering, telecommunications, and computing. Today, IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization, with over 400,000 members worldwide. It plays a critical role in advancing technology, publishing research, developing standards, and fostering innovation across numerous industries.

A quiz on IEEE’s history followed, named Quiz History Of IEEE in which members actively participated. The winners were later announced and received prizes from the respected teachers. The Chair of the IEEE RUET Student Branch then delivered an inspiring speech for all attendees, setting a positive tone for the event.

The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and a vibrant rally, where teachers, participants, and the executive committee joined together. A memorable photo session captured the day, followed by refreshments to wrap up the successful event.
