Connecting, Contributing, and Leading: Exploring the Rewards of Volunteering in IEEE Congresses
On October 5, 2023, the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter and IEEE CS BDC Team SPARK organized an event to celebrate IEEE Day 2023. The event was held virtually on Zoom and was attended by participants from around the world.
The event featured two keynote speakers, Sarah Borba and Frenny Luvania Paye. Borba is a Researcher at the Area of Inertial Sensors and Trajectory Tracking at the Federal University of Campina Grande in Brazil. Paye is the Former President of the XXVII CONEIMERA UNA PUNO and a Finalist in the ASME Environmental Division System Contest.
Both speakers gave inspiring talks on the theme of “Leveraging technology for a better tomorrow.” Borba discussed her work on using inertial sensors to develop new technologies for navigation and tracking. Paye shared her experiences as a young engineer working to solve environmental problems.
In addition to the keynote talks, the event also featured a panel discussion on “Connecting, Contributing, and Leading: Exploring the Rewards of Volunteering in IEEE Congresses.” The panelists were all experienced IEEE volunteers who shared their insights on the benefits of volunteering and how to get involved.
The event was a great success and provided participants with an opportunity to learn about the latest trends in technology and to connect with other IEEE members from around the world.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the event:
- Technology has the potential to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges, such as climate change and poverty.
- Volunteering in IEEE congresses is a great way to learn new skills, network with professionals, and make a difference in the world.
- IEEE is a global community of engineers and scientists who are working together to create a better future.
I encourage everyone to get involved in IEEE and to celebrate IEEE Day!
