Decode Invading Personal Space Among Gen Z

     IEEE Student Branch Jeppiaar Engineering College,in collaboration with the IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, Organized a webinar titled “Decode Invading Personal Space Among Gen Z ”.This event was held on the Google meet Platform from 6:00pm to 7:30 pm On October 7,2024.

                         The Webinar was Conducted to celebrate IEEE Day 2024 and aimed to shed light on how personal space is perceived and negotiated by Gen Z in both physical and digital environments. It also delved into the consequences of overstepping these boundaries and how various social and technological factors contribute to the invasion of personal space among younger generations.

                         The speaker for the webinar was Mrs R.Mahalakshmi, Operations and Management Partner,IDMATRIX Headsup,Soft Skills trainer,School counsellor . Mrs R.Mahalakshmi has extensive expertise in the areas of social psychology and generational studies, making their insights highly relevant to the topic of discussion.

 

During the webinar, Mrs R.Mahalakshmi covered several key points:

                          They discussed how social media and constant online presence affect personal boundaries, highlighting the blurred lines between public and private spaces for Gen Z.

 

 

Physical Boundaries in Social Settings: 

                            The speaker explored how face-to-face interactions differ from older generations in terms of maintaining physical space and respecting personal boundaries. 

 

Psychological Impact:

                            The effects of personal space invasion on mental well-being were emphasized, particularly how anxiety, stress, and social withdrawal can arise when boundaries are not respected.

 

Technology’s Role: 

                     There was a focus on how advancements in technology, particularly smartphones and social media platforms, have changed the ways Gen Z interacts, potentially leading to unintended invasions of privacy.
