IEEE DAY 2025 and Inauguration of Newly formed Student Chapters SPS & ComSoC, WiE & MTTs
IEEE Day 2025 at Mahindra University will be a vibrant and inspiring occasion, showcasing academic achievement, innovation, and community spirit under the theme ‘Sustainability, Eco-friendliness and Women in Engineering’. This vibrant occasion will bring together distinguished educators, industry experts, researchers, and students to reflect on the values of IEEE while envisioning a sustainable and inclusive future. Guided by the student branch motto “Empathy for Society and Commitment to Science,” the day will highlight professional development, social engagement, and hands-on participation, ensuring an immersive experience for all.
The day’s festivities will begin with the inaugural session, graced by esteemed guests from the IEEE Hyderabad Section. Prof. Vijayalata Reddy (Ex-Chair, IEEE Hyderabad Section), Prof. Padmasai Yarlagadda (Chair, IEEE Signal Processing Society, Hyderabad Chapter), Dr. Lakshminarayana Merugu (Ex-Chair, IEEE MTT Hyderabad Chapter), and Prof. Harshavardhini (Chair, IEEE WIE Hyderabad Chapter) will lead official inaugurations of newly formed IEEE chapters at the university. This milestone moment will also include the felicitation of eminent educators: Prof. Kalluri Ramalinga Sarma (Ex-IIT Kanpur) and Prof. G. Bhuvaneswari (IEEE Fellow; Ex-IIT Delhi), honoring their outstanding contributions to education and engineering. An executive lunch will follow, offering invited guests an opportunity to network and celebrate shared goals.
A campus tour will provide visitors with a glimpse into Mahindra University’s cutting-edge research centers, innovation hubs, libraries, and laboratories. This unique window into the institution’s growth will highlight the university’s commitment to advancing technology, fostering interdisciplinary learning, and creating real-world impact.
In the afternoon sessions, the focus shifts to intellectual exchange and forward-looking perspectives. Keynote talks by Prof. Vijayalata Reddy and Prof. Padmasai Yarlagadda will address the challenges and opportunities in promoting women in science and engineering, inspiring students to embrace diversity and leadership in STEM. This will be followed by a series of technical expert talks featuring prominent thought leaders: Prof. Ram Mohan Vemuri (former Intel), Prof. G. Bhuvaneswari (Ex-IIT Delhi), Dr. Prafulla Kalapatapu (AI/ML specialist), and Dr. Shivdasini S. Amin (Life Coach). Their sessions will cover state-of-the-art developments in technology, evolving opportunities in engineering, and the critical role of women in shaping sustainable scientific ecosystems. A networking tea break will offer time for engaging conversations and building professional connections.
Parallel student-focused activities will add dynamism to the day. Paper presentations by young researchers will spotlight original contributions and diverse perspectives, with a conscious effort to ensure at least 50% participation by female students, reflecting IEEE’s commitment to inclusion. A workshop track will cover quantum computing and robotics, offering hands-on exposure to two of the most transformative areas of modern science. This track will culminate in a thought-provoking expert session by Prof. Jayasri Dontabhaktuni.
To foster creativity and community engagement, a series of art, quiz, and sustainability drives will be conducted in parallel. Coordinated primarily by female volunteers, these activities will include a themed quiz competition, photography and painting showcasing ideas of sustainability, eco-friendliness, women’s safety, and workplace health. The campus community will also participate in a university campus cleaning drive, underscoring the responsibility of engineers as role models for environmental stewardship. Volunteers will recognize and reward the efforts of the female cleaning staff, ensuring inclusivity and appreciation. A spirited cycling event is also planned, encouraging fitness and symbolizing unity in collective action.
The closing segment of the program begins with the valedictory session, where participants and winners will receive certificates, marking their achievements. In line with the theme, all gifts are designed to be eco-friendly, with efforts evaluated through a sustainability score of 3.8 out of 5, reflecting the university’s dedication to measurable impact. The day will conclude on a celebratory note with refreshments, sustainable snacks, and engaging IEEE-themed stalls, giving participants more opportunities to connect, reflect, and celebrate the spirit of engineering.
IEEE Day 2025 at Mahindra University will stand out not just as an academic program but as a platform where knowledge, empathy, responsibility, creativity, and inclusivity come together. With inspiring talks, forward-looking workshops, hands-on sustainability initiatives, and cultural activities, the celebration will embody the essence of IEEE: advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, while nurturing the values of empathy, diversity, and commitment to society.
