Preliminary Round – IEEE Day PES Quiz 2024

IEEE PES SBC CET conducted the preliminary round of the IEEE Day PES Quiz on 15th October 2024, at the College of Engineering Trivandrum. This event, organized as part of IEEE Day celebrations, aimed to promote technical knowledge and encourage active participation among first-year students. The IEEE Day PES Quiz serves as a platform to test and enhance students’ understanding of technical concepts, energy systems, and general knowledge. The preliminary round was exclusively designed for first-year students of CET to introduce them to the competitive yet enriching experience provided by IEEE activities. This round also served as a gateway for students to represent their college in the final round, organized by the IEEE PES Kerala Chapter.

The preliminary round was conducted in a pen-and-paper format, featuring a well-curated set of questions covering topics related to electrical engineering, power systems, and general science. The quiz duration was 20 minutes, during which 35 enthusiastic students participated, representing various engineering branches.

The participants showcased their knowledge and quick thinking during the session. Certificates of participation, recognized for activity points, were distributed to all participants as a token of appreciation. Based on the performance, the top two scorers qualified for the final round of the IEEE Day PES Quiz.

The winners of the preliminary round were as follows:

  • Ashwin Biju (S1, AEI)

  • Nikhil M Warrier (S1, CSE)

  • Sibin J Tandon (S1, EEE)

The top two participants, Ashwin Biju and Nikhil M Warrier, advanced to represent the College of Engineering Trivandrum in the final round of the IEEE Day PES Quiz conducted by the IEEE PES Kerala Chapter.

The preliminary round of the IEEE Day PES Quiz was a resounding success, achieving its objective of fostering curiosity and enthusiasm among first-year students. The event not only provided participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge but also encouraged them to explore the vast domains of electrical and energy sciences.
