IEEE PES UNIZIK celebrates IEEE Day 2024
IEEE Day Celebration at Christ Ambassadors College, Mgbakwu
The IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch at Nnamdi Azikiwe University successfully hosted IEEE Day on October 4, 2024, in collaboration with the STEM club at Christ Ambassadors College, Mgbakwu. The event aimed to inspire young minds about the limitless possibilities of technology.
The event commenced with a captivating introduction by Engr. Dozie Ekwunife, the PES Student Branch Coordinator. He provided a comprehensive overview of IEEE, its mission, and vision to advance technology for the betterment of humanity. Engr. Dozie emphasized the importance of harnessing technology to address societal challenges and improve quality of life. He also highlighted potential projects and activities that the students could undertake to contribute to their communities.
Following the introduction, Ochuba Ebubechukwu Benedict, the President of the PES Nnamdi Azikiwe University Branch, delivered an insightful address on the Power and Energy Society. He discussed the society’s goals, achievements, and its commitment to providing access to electricity and renewable energy to underserved communities.
To showcase their technological prowess, the students demonstrated their skills in Python programming. They developed a simple data collector application that could be used to efficiently document information in various settings, such as schools and hospitals. The IEEE Nnamdi Azikiwe University Student Branch encouraged the students to explore innovative applications of Python and continue their creative pursuits.
As a token of support for the STEM club, IEEE donated a robotics kit. This valuable resource will enable the students to engage in hands-on robotics projects and further develop their technical skills.
